ICYMI: Congressman Stephen Lynch Formally Endorses Question 2

Congressman Lynch Urges Voters to Support Parents' Right to Choose Best Public Schools for Their Children

Earlier this week Congressman Stephen F. Lynch (D-Boston) toured Boston Collegiate Charter School, then endorsed Question 2 in front of a crowd of parent supporters in Dorchester at a nearby location.

Congressman Lynch and members of the Great Schools Massachusetts coalition urged residents to vote “Yes on 2” to give families, particularly those stuck in underperforming school districts, fair access to Massachusetts’ best-in-the-nation public charter schools.

“Almost 20 years ago, I helped to co-found the South Boston Harbor Academy because I believed that children from across the City of Boston should have the opportunity to get a high quality, college preparatory education at a public school. The Boston Collegiate Charter School, as it is known today, continues to carry out that important mission,” said Congressman Lynch, who represents the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts. “I support Question 2 because expanding the cap on charter schools will give families more choices for their child’s public education and will help to raise the quality of education for children from across the Commonwealth.”

Massachusetts is home to the best public charter schools in the nation, with a proven, 20-year track record of providing an excellent education to all children, and strengthening Massachusetts’ best-in-the-nation public education system.

Passing Question 2 in November will give more parents the right to choose the best public school for their children, by enabling the state Board of Education to approve a modest increase in new charter schools or expansions per year, with preference given to schools in the lowest performing districts. Question 2 will strengthen Massachusetts’ best-in-the-nation public schools, give children more time in the classroom, and lead to more funding for public education.
