Northeastern Student's App Gets $1M Investment
Greg Skloot's event management software startup Attendware started as a project at Northeastern, and last week got a large investment to grow the company.

A 2012 Northeastern graduate has secured a $1 million investment into his event management software company.
The company, Attendware, makes it easy to plan events, including printing nametags and collecting data. Founder Greg Skloot graduated with a business degree from Northeastern last year.
“It seems like a small problem, but it’s such a pain for people who organize events,” Skloot told Northeastern's news blog last week.

But this small problem solver has received a big investment: $1 million investment from .406 Ventures, a Boston-based venture capital firm.
According to Northeastern, Skloot came up with the idea for Attendware as president of Northeastern’s Entrepreneurs Club. He says he was running into problems running events for the club, including using email lists and sign-in sheets.

“I would look at the sea of people and think to myself, ‘I don’t know who these people are. Are they freshmen or are they seniors? Are they business majors? Are they here for the first time or are they people who keep coming back?” Skoot told the Northeastern blog. “At the time, the only way to figure all that out was to go through all our documents, a process that was really long and messy.”
After launching his company, Northeastern University was actually his first big client in January of 2013, which helped him streamline his app and improve features.
