Red Sox Close To Contract With World Series Hero: Reports

The fan favorite righthander is nearing a four-year deal with Boston, according to multiple reports.

BOSTON, MA — The Red Sox are reportedly close to a deal with World Series hero Nathan Eovaldi. The Athletic reported Thursday a deal is pending a physical, while Fancred said the four-year deal was for about $17 million per year.

Eovaldi thrust himself into World Series lore in Game 3. Despite taking the loss in the historic 18-inning affair in Los Angeles, the 28-year-old righthander threw six innings of some of the gutsiest relief you'll see. Eovaldi pitched 22 1/3 postseason innings - including three World Series games - on an elbow that has been through two Tommy John surgeries.

Boston traded for Eovaldi midway through the season, acquiring him from Tampa Bay in a relatively quiet move. He was 3-3 with a 3.33 ERA in 11 starts for Boston before unleashing a dominant playoff run, when he went 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA.
