Small Protest Outside Fenway Park to Protect Nat'l Parks
A group of environmental supporters gathered outside Fenway Park on Wednesday to protest budget cuts for parks at the federal level.

A group of concerned citizens gathered next to Fenway Park on Wednesday morning to protest potential cuts to the national budget for parks, which could have local effects.Â
Environment Massachusetts Citizen Outreach Director, Bess Beller-Levesque spoke to a group of about 10 people in front of a staged tent set up on the sidewalk in front of Fenway Park.Â
"We’re looking to show folks what would happen if Congress makes the wrong decision and these budget cuts do go through and folks are forced to camp in our urban locations instead of our national parks," said Beller-Levesque.Â
Beller-Levesque said that over the past two years, Congress has cut the National Park Service budget by 11 percent.Â
Locally, parks that could be affected by the national budget cuts are the Boston Harbor Islands and Minuteman Park in Lexington, as well as the Cape Cod seashore.Â
"They are considering making another cut on the scale of about 15 percent on top of that 11 percent that already happened, so we’re working to make sure that desn’t happen," Beller-Levesque said.Â
