UPDATE: 17 Students Hospitalized in Hazmat Incident

Students were evacuated Monday morning as fire, rescue and hazmat teams have responded to the Boston Arts Academy.

Seventeen students have been hospitalized after being exposed to hazardous materials at Boston Arts Academy, Boston fire officials have announced.

Emergency crews responded to the school Monday morning after reports of a reported hazardous materials situation. A classroom was reportedly working with hydrochloric acid that was not properly vented, according to reports. The students started feeling light-headed. They were treated at the scene and brought to the hospital as a precaution. They were expected to be treated and released.

Officials tested the air in the school, which came back normal, necn.com reports. STudents returned to the classroom just before 11 a.m.
