Two Hurt After Comm Ave Crash Between Uber, Distracted Driver: Police

A 10-year-old and a 78-year-old were hospitalized. Both drivers received citations.

An accident on Comm. Ave. near Boston University pinned a 10-year-old and injured a 78-year-old Tuesday, police said.

According to the Boston Police Department, two drivers were involved, including one with Uber's mobile ride-hailing service. The crash happened close to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block Commonwealth Ave.

According to police, a Mercedes struck a Toyota Camry, with Uber, stopped in front of it. The Mercedes' driver reportedly told police she was looking at her phone, and did not brake in time to miss hitting the stopped car in front of her.

Police said the Uber driver was stopped in the bike lane, waiting for a passenger, when his car was hit by the Mercedes. According to police, the Mercedes driver then lost control and swerved through a barrier on the sidewalk, hitting one pedestrian and pinning a 10-year-old under the car, according to the child's father.

Both victims were hospitalized.

The Mercedes driver received a distracted driving citation and the Uber driver was cited for an illegal stop, Boston Police said.
