Watch Out For Fake World Series Tickets: Boston Police

Boston Police are warning baseball fans who choose to purchase tickets from a secondary source that they are taking a big risk.

FENWAY, MA — Don't get scammed when you're looking to buy tickets to the World Series. That's the message from the Boston Police Department ahead of Game 1 at Fenway when the Sox take on the LA Dodgers in the 2018 World Series.

With the cheapest tickets going for $429, 15th row bleacher seats going for about $1,000 and one person selling a front-row seat in the dugout box for a modest $31,002.50, after fees, police are asking fans to watch out for fake tickets.

"Be alert, aware and wary of purchasing counterfeit tickets for the 2018 Fall Classic," police said. "Simply put, fans who choose to purchase tickets from a secondary source are taking a chance."

Police said fans are less likely to be scammed when they buy tickets from authorized ticket agencies.

"The old-buyer-beware axiom most certainly applies, those purchasing from secondary sources do so at the buyer’s risk. Officers want to proactively curb such activity and encourage buyers to only purchase from official vendors. Purchasing via other means creates the potential for possessing either an invalid or counterfeit ticket," police said in a statement.

Police are also asking folks to report any fake ticket selling to them by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
