Steve Pearce Wins Red Sox World Series MVP 2018

The 36-year-old journeyman is now a local legend, having hit three home runs in the final two games of the World Series.

BOSTON, MA — Steve Pearce, a 36-year-old journeyman who became a mid-season acquisition without much fanfare, is the World Series MVP. Pearce had 3 home runs, 8 RBIs, and 5 runs scored in a five-game series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pearce hit a game-tying home run in the eighth inning and a bases-clearing double the following inning in Game 4. He hit a first-inning two-run home run for an encore in Game 5, giving the Red Sox a lead they would never relinquish. He later hit a solo shot in the eighth inning.

"I'm very blessed to be here right now," Pearce said after the game.

Pearce was originally drafted by Boston in the 10th round in 2004, but he didn't sign. He found his way to the team when the Toronto Blue Jays traded him to the Sox for a minor leaguer in June. It completed his trip around the American League East, having played for every team in the division.
