Foxborough Police Warn Of Phone Scammers Posing As Officers

Police said the scammer claimed to be soliciting donations for the Foxborough Police Department.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Foxborough police asked residents to look out for phone scams.

According to police, residents have received several calls from someone claiming to be soliciting donations for the Foxborough police department. The department said they never call asking for donations.

Police offered the following advice to prevent residents from becoming victims of donation scams:

  • Verify fundraisers for identification
  • Ask how your contribution will be used. Get written information
  • Ask if your contribution is tax-deductible. Make checks payable to the official name of the group or charity. Avoid cash gifts.
  • Do not feel intimidated by declining to give. A caller who uses intimidation tactics is likely to be a scam artist.
