FOXBOROUGH, MA — Kerri Vogler, of Foxborough, has run Sweetness and Honey Bakery out of her house for a little over a year.

She said she has acquired quite a few customers and has done well selling birthday cakes and macarons through word-of-mouth advertising. But even Vogler couldn't believe where the word would spread next — to a member of the New England Patriots scouting department, who called looking for a birthday cake for head coach Bill Belichick.

Vogler said Nancy Meier, the director of scouting administration for the team, found out about Sweetness and Honey through a recommendation from one of Vogler's regular customers. Vogler said she missed Meier's call, and when she heard the voicemail Thursday, she was in disbelief.

"I really didn't think it could actually be someone from the New England Patriots," Vogler said. "I was very shocked that it was a real phone call, and it was super amazing."

Vogler said Meier requested a marble cake with vanilla frosting, shaped like Belichick's iconic game day attire — the gray, cut-off hoodie. Though Vogler was a little nervous, confidence helped her "do her job" for the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach.

"It's a lot of pressure, but I’m very confident in my abilities," Vogler said. "Honestly, it turned out exactly how I wanted it. Thank you to the New England Patriots for reaching out to me and trusting me to make the cake come to life."

Vogler hopes it will lead to even more business opportunities. She started Sweetness and Honey Bakery in January 2020 and was worried when the coronavirus pandemic hit. But so far things have turned out great.

"I thought with the pandemic, any chance to grow it would have been out the window," Vogler said. "I thought someone wouldn't want to shop from someone that bakes out of their house. But I had a great year and think I'm going to do even better this year."
