FOXBOROUGH, MA — Gillette Stadium's coronavirus vaccine site is among four major ones slated to close by June as the state approaches its goal of vaccinating more than 4 million people.

Gillette Stadium will close along with mass vaccination sites at the Hynes Convention Center, the Natick Mall and the Danvers DoubleTree Hotel.

Gov. Charlie Baker said Monday morning Massachusetts is outpacing the rest of the country by "leaps and bounds" in COVID-19 vaccinations and will hit its goal of vaccinating 4.1 million people within weeks.

The state will adjust its strategy to a more targeted, small-scale approach, keyed by 22 regional collaboratives.

"We are adjusting our vaccine strategy to be more targeted," Baker said. "And we'll shift vaccines to smaller-scale operations that can focus on particular communities or particular populations."

The mass vaccination sites have fully vaccinated more than a half-million people since the first one opened Jan. 18 — and they aren't done yet.

"These sites still have hundreds of thousands of appointments over the next three weeks to do more," Baker said.

The Foxborough site opened in January and was the first mass vaccination site to open in Massachusetts. Gillette Stadium started vaccinating in phase one for first responders with 300 doses per day, before eventually expanding to more people and administering thousands of shots per day.
