Matthew McConaughey Is In Foxborough Filming A Movie

Oscar-winning actor bring his talents to town in the filming of his newest film "Sea of Trees"

The “Sea of Trees” movie is making the F. Gilbert Hills State Forest into a “Suicide Forest” in the film starring Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey and Oscar-nominated actor Ken Watanabe.

The movie, “Sea of Trees”, is set in Aokigahara forest near Mt. Fuji, a common location for suicide in Japan. In the film, a suicidal man, played by McConaughey, travels to Aokigahara forest, also known as the “Sea of Trees”. While in the forest. McConaughey’s character runs into a man, played by Watanabe, and they go on a journey together to find a way out of the forest.

Residents on Mill Street were sent a letter last week, notifying them that the movie crew would be in the area.

Foxboro Recreation Director Debbie Giardino told The Sun Chronicle that the recreation hall and chapel at Cocasset River Recreation Area was rented for Monday and Tuesday, and also for Thursday, Aug. 14. The pools are still open to the public while “Sea of Trees” crew is filming.

The star of the movie, McConaughey, won an Oscar in 2014 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club”.

“Sea of Trees” director Gus Van Sant, is a two-time Oscar-nominee for the movies “Milk” and “Good Will Hunting”.

Filming alongside McConaughey and Watanabe is actress Naomi Watts. Watts, however, will not be filming in Foxborough, according to The Sun Chronicle.
