The Michael G. McGinty Scholarship Fund, a scholarship named for a local resident who was in the World Trade Center, recognizes local high school graduates who demonstrate leadership in community service.
This year's winners, both graduates of Foxboro Class of 2019, are eager to take their skills and passion to make the world a better place to the next chapter of their lives! Molly Murphy will take her lacrosse talents to North Carolina’s Davidson College Wildcats where she will study sciences in either a pre-med or psychology program. She cites many experiences as a youth coach as key to developing patience, leadership, and compassion; additionally, an upcoming student trip to Prague and Portugal will provide experiences to expand the sport and learn about other cultures and how global relationships through sportsmanship can impact others.
Billy Ozone, who will study finance at Bentley University this fall, demonstrates community leadership through the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in West Roxbury where he has been an alter server, President of the Teen Group in his church and all of New England, and recently a representative for the Diocese of Worcester and New England at a Community Service Leadership Conference of International Orthodox Christian Charities in Minnesota. Billy values opportunities to support local community activities such as serving meals in local shelters but also appreciates the opportunities he has had to represent his peers in leadership endeavors to create opportunities for others to engage in such activities.
