Norwood Restaurant Wants To Open Where Foxborough Waxy's Was
Conrad's Restaurant, known for its casual cuisine such as seafood and grilled dishes, and bar appetizers, hopes to open a second in Foxboro.
FOXBOROUGH, MA — The owner of a popular restaurant in downtown Norwood, has filed for a permit with the Board of Selectmen, indicating their intention to open where Waxy O'Connor's Irish Pub used to be. Conrad’s Restaurant, known for its casual cuisine such as seafood and grilled dishes, and bar appetizers, hopes to open a new restaurant and bar in Foxborough.
The location became vacant after Waxy O'Conner's was ordered closed by the Health Department. Health department officials shut down Waxy's after their inspection discovered perishable foods being delivered in non-refrigerated vans, a moldy fridge, and a bar without cleaning products. Rather than correcting the issues brought up in the inspection report, the restaurant decided to close permanently after accusing the town of taking "punitive measures" made it impossible to stay in business.
Last February, the board of selectmen voted to withhold the license for six months while Waxy's looked for a buyer. Robert Conrad, of Walpole, the owner of Conrad's restaurant, secured the lease for the Main Street pub. Community Information Specialist Amanda Smith told Patch a public hearing to approve Conrad's license was scheduled for the selectmen meeting at 8 p.m., Aug. 6.
