Will Foxborough Get Snow Days This Year?

FOXBOROUGH, MA — During a normal year, news of a snowstorm heading for Foxborough would bring the prospect that school could be canceled. That's still the case for now, but with online learning amid the coronavirus pandemic, that prospect could be dimmed somewhat.

This year, the state is allowing school districts to pivot to virtual learning instead of canceling in-person class amid winter weather. For now, Foxborough will treat inclement weather days like traditional snow days, but this could change later in the school year, Superintendent Amy Berdos said.

Berdos said the school district is still working towards getting every student the necessary technology to make snow days virtual learning days.

"As you are aware, we are currently deploying devices to become a 1:1 district; however, not all devices have been received or deployed at this time," Berdos said in a letter to parents. "Therefore, we will reevaluate this decision moving forward. Notices or communications will be sent prior to any changes being made. As for now, if we have a snow day, we hope that it is one where you can stay safe and warm and enjoy time with your family."

The state modified this school year to a required 170 days instead of the typical 180 because of the pandemic, so missed days do not need to be added to the calendar in June.
