New Affordable Housing Complex Grand Opening In Framingham

Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is celebrating the completion of renovations at Tribune Apartments.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) is celebrating the completion of renovations at Tribune Apartments, a 53-unit affordable housing development for seniors and people with disabilities in South Framingham, the group said in an announcement.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being held Friday, Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Tribune Affordable Apartments, 46 Irving St.

The complex consists of two attached buildings: the Tribune Building, originally constructed in 1892 to house the weekly Framingham Tribune newspaper; and the Victory Building, built in the early 1900s. In 1982, the buildings were joined and converted to its current use as housing. The building, in the Irving Square Historic District, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

POAH acquired Tribune Apartments in 2013 to ensure long-term affordability for its residents. In January 2017, POAH began renovations and is now celebrating completed upgrades including new kitchens, bathrooms and energy-efficient appliances; a roof replacement; masonry work; accessibility improvements; water-saving initiatives; and a new management office.
With the renovations comes a full-time office for BayPath Elder Services, which will work with management to connect residents to a range of services, from evidence-based health programs to financial education and computer literacy. The partnership with POAH aims to engage senior residents in their needs and interests to help them remain in their homes and the community, aging with dignity and independence.
