FRAMINGHAM, MA — An enormous piece of real estate in the downtown Framingham area hit the market this week when the Archdiocese of Boston agreed to sell the shuttered Marian High School property.

The 115,000 square-foot building along Union Avenue north of the downtown area has been up for lease over the last year with no takers. The property is being marketed by MetroWest Commercial, but there is no list price. Instead, the Archdiocese is accepting proposals for renovation, or demolition.

"Redevelopment or demolition of the 115,000 square-foot closed school are both possibilities. The building is situated on 3.2 waterfront acres. It has four levels of classrooms & offices all with large size windows, an 850 seat auditorium, a full-sized gymnasium, a big cafeteria, and a commercial kitchen. Proposed projects could include condominium conversion, another school, or medical use to name a few possibilities," MetroWest broker Marlene Aron said in a statement.

Although within walking distance to the MBTA station and other downtown attractions, the former high school is outside the transit-oriented Central Business District zone.
