The retired lieutenant colonel is chronicling his cross-country bike ride for charity.

A retired Army Lieutenant Colonel from North Grafton is one of roughly 20 cyclists participating in a coast-to-coast charity bike ride for the Wounded Warriors Project.

Philip Schoenig, 51, is a rider in the America by Bicycle Fast America Ride. He'll start his 33-day journey and 3,450 mile ride in Costa Mesa, CA on April 21, riding across country and finishing on May 23 in Amesbury, MA.

The nonprofit Wounded Warriors Project serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or Sept. 11.

Schoenig's said his participation "is in fulfillment of a lifelong goal to train and complete a physically challenging endurance event and to see and experience this beautiful country of ours."

"I was fortunate enough to have a healthy and rewarding 27-year military career but some of my brothers and sisters in arms were not as fortunate and together we can help make a difference for them and their families on in their road to recovery."
