LETTER: Friends of Grafton Elders Working to Replace Van

A fundraising campaign has begun.

Submitted by Rita Cohen

I am the President of Friends of the Grafton Elders, Inc. (FOGE), a 501(c) (3) non profit organization in Grafton. Our purpose as an organization is to help all of Grafton’s senior citizens enjoy a good quality of life. We do this by providing financial support for various senior programs at the senior center such as exercise classes, computers in the center’s lab, winter heating fuel assistance and transportation assistance.  FOGE has also helped seniors in housing crises, medical and other emergency situations.

At the current time we are spearheading a fundraising effort to help the Town of Grafton replace the Senior Center’s Transportation Van, affectionately called GERT (Grafton Elders Riding Together). This van takes our seniors who don’t drive or who can no longer drive to medical, shopping, therapy, social and other appointments. The van has many problems and desperately needs to be replaced.  We are looking to the community for assistance with this effort.  We hope that local business will also support this project.
