
Summer can be a magical time.
To get the party started, magician Greg McAdams will entertain at the summer reading program kickoff at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 on the Common. Rain location is the gym.
The event officially begins the summer reading program, which lasts through August. The library has a series of events planned to encourage youngsters to expand their horizons and learn new skills and activities.

And most importantly, summer reading programs encourage young people that, even though school is out, they should not put the books away.
A variety of events are scheduled throughout the summer. Here are some samplings:

Cosmic Painting: Tuesday, June 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. Bring a pillowcase to be painted in a style to ensure sweet dreams.
Read to a Dog Day, Monday, July 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. Bring a book or select one from the library and read along with a therapy dog through the PAWSing to Read program.
Fairy Houses with Tracy Kane: Saturday, July 14 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Make fairy houses on the library lawn with author Tracy Kane.
Cemetery Tour and Gravestone Rubbings: Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. Visit Oak Street Cemetery to learn about what gravestones can teach people about life. Then do a grave rubbing.
