State Police Make Heroin Bust in Grafton

Yesterday, at 2:45 p.m., Sgt. Michael Richards was traveling on Route 90 eastbound in the town of Grafton. Richards observed a brown Jeep Grand Cherokee in the left lane traveling at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. Richards pulled the vehicle over and determined that the operator and passenger had conflicting stories regarding their travel plans. 

At this time, Richards contacted Trooper Brian Frechette, assigned to the State Police K-9 Section and requested that he respond to the motor vehicle stop with his certified narcotic odor detection canine. 

Moments later, Trooper Frechette arrived on scene and deployed his K-9 who performed an exterior “sniff” of the vehicle. The K-9 immediately alerted to the presence of a narcotic odor emanating from the rear passenger’s door. The K-9 also conducted an interior search of the Jeep and alerted to the rear cargo area of the vehicle. During a search of the Jeep a black bag containing three large plastic wrapped cylinders were located. After a field test was conducted it was determined that the three cylinders contained a total weight of 3 kilograms of heroin.    

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Ronnie L. Searcy, 51, of Hyde Park. Searcy was transported to the State Police Barracks in Millbury where he was booked, charged, and held on $340,000 cash bail. He was charged with speeding; failure to keep right; and trafficking heroin.
