The charges stemmed from an incident Oct. 3 when Sgt. John Harrington and Officers James Crosby and Officer John Ropiak were dispatched to Perry’s home to serve a temporary involuntary hospitalization order, according to court documents. Medics from Alert Ambulance, including paramedic James Quinn, were also called to the scene, the documents said.

The order, issued by the Mobile Youth Crisis Team of Central Massachusetts, stated that Perry had refused to take her medication and threatened to commit acts of violence against her mother, according to court documents.

Harrington and Crosby cornered Perry in the basement and ordered her to sit on the sofa, court documents said. She then lunged forward and threw punches at the pair, court documents said.

As they attempted to restrain her, she kicked Harrington and Quinn in the legs and flailed her arms in an attempt to scratch them, court documents said. When she was subdued and handcuffed, she yelled an obscenity at her mother and threatened to kill her, court documents said.

She was sentenced to prison for the assault and battery charges on the police officers and public official. She was given the same sentence on all three charges, but allowed to serve them concurrently.

Charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime were dismissed.
