Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Evan’s family moved to Monson when he was six. Growing up he enjoyed an active lifestyle, playing soccer and baseball; at age 11, he took up motorcycle racing a hobby he continued with until he was in his early 20’s. When he wasn’t in school or on the racetrack, Evan was an active member, and leader, in his local 4-H Club. Evan credits his active youth with his strong sense of determination, and his deep desire to help and teach people.
Evan attended UMASS Amherst where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. After completing his degree, he enrolled at Anna Maria College where he earned a Masters in Public Administration. Evan spent some time after graduation as an adjunct professor at Anna Maria College, teaching leadership. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Program on Negotiation.

After completing school, he took his first step into public service by becoming the Emergency Management Director for the Town of Monson in 2011. Evan filled this position until 2014 when he stepped up and became the Town Administrator. Evan looked at the similarities between the two positions and realized the Administrator role would allow him to continue helping residents in times of extreme need, just on a larger scale.
As the Town Administrator, Evan helped guide Monson through tough times and helped to secure the town’s financial future. When the Town Offices and Police Department were destroyed by a tornado, Evan kept his composure in the stressful situation and oversaw the construction of new buildings. Similarly, he oversaw the renovation and reopening of Monson’s Memorial Town Hall. Evan also spearheaded the implementation of new financial policies and reforms, which helped to solidify Monson’s financial security.
Mr. Brassard was attracted to Grafton because of the unique and diverse feel the community has. When asked about it, he stated “Grafton seems to have it all: farms, housing, commercial developments, and open space!” Despite coming to us from a smaller town, he is confident that he will be able to fill his new role. On his first day in town, he wants to start building a rapport with residents and staff to help build trust and open communication, with the hope that it will lead to innovative and efficient problem-solving.
Evan is a seasoned public servant and will be bringing almost a decade of experience with him to Grafton. In Monson he oversaw capital projects and financial reform and hopes to bring the same innovation and determination to his new role. Through his excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, he plans to make strides in fostering a culture of collaboration in the Grafton town offices!
When Evan is not at work, helping those that need it, he is an avid woodworker and outdoorsman. He lives in Monson with his wife and two daughters and continues to use his 4-H experience by raising chickens at home.
Mr. Brassard’s first day is Monday, February 22! Despite the Municipal Center not being fully open to the public, we are working on a virtual method for our residents to meet and talk to him directly. Make sure to check Grafton’s website and social media pages regularly for information on an upcoming event.
