At the Hamilton town meeting on May 22, a proposal to place an industrial cannabis facility at Green Meadows Farm was addressed. Selectman, Scott Maddern presented the proposed facility in a seemingly cheerleading fashion never mentioning the “elephant in the room” issue; which is the possible reduced housing values.
Frustrated, that the selectman apparently had no obvious objection to moving forward on development of a 6 acre mass production facility in a rural setting…therefore I asked the question…what is the effect on property values and preserving the rural agricultural setting of Asbury St. and in particular the property values of the neighbors to this facility? Selectman Maddern response to my inquiry was a dressing down to me and others on how much we owe the Patton Family for all they did for the community and the country. Indeed, the Patton Family deserves much respect, just as every other family or person who served in our military or donated their time or money to their community does. However this has nothing to do with whether or not a cannabis facility should or should not be allowed in the Town of Hamilton. On this issue we should look at the pros and cons objectively to make the best decision for the town and its’ people.
