HAMILTON-WENHAM, MA - Ethel M. (McDavitt) Haraden of Hamilton, beloved wife of Edward A. Haraden, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday December 10, 2015 at the Brentwood Nursing Rehab Facility in Danvers, Ma. Ethel was born in Walpole, Ma on November 18, 1929. She was the daughter of Daniel and Loretta (Glazebrook) McDavitt. After graduating from Walpole High School, she attended the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with her RN degree. She continued working at Somerville Hospital as an RN until she met and married Edward Haraden in 1955 when they moved to Hamilton and raised their four children.

She could always be found cheering on her kids at all of their sports events from little league, soccer, hockey, field hockey and local horse shows. Ethel cherished her family time and always made time for vacations and visits to stay connected to her family in Walpole.

Affectionately known as “Auntie Ethel” in her Day Ave neighborhood, her love and nursing skills were given freely whenever someone fell off their bike, had a cut, gash or broke something or even just had a crayon stuck in their nose; she would quietly tend to them and make sure they were all right.
Before her health declined she loved to travel, most often to Bermuda with her husband Ed and a few other couples who were close lifelong friends.

She loved gardening and was way ahead of the times using organic gardening techniques since the 1970’s. Her love of animals and nature were imparted to her children and grandchildren.
Her dedication to a cause for the greater good was recognized when she received an honor for being one of the dedicated participants in the now famous Harvard Nurses study.
