Found In Hamilton: Col. Robert Gould Shaw's Historic Sword
The sword Col. Robert Gould Shaw used at the battle at Fort Wagner was found in a Hamilton home.
HAMILTON, MA – The sword Col. Robert Gould Shaw used in the battle at Fort Wagner was found in an attic Hamilton, and is now on display at the Massachusetts Historical Society, Live Science reports.
Shaw led the 54th Massachusetts infantry, the first infantry in the North made up of all black enlisted soldiers. According to the Boston Globe, the sword went on display on July 18, after Shaw's descendants found the sword in the attic of a Hamilton home and recognized the initials engraved.
