Gordon College Theatre Arts presents Titanic the Musical

Following a SOLD OUT weekend, remaining shows run through February 1st, 2020 at Gordon College.

Gordon College Theatre Arts presents Titanic the Musical, a retelling of one of the greatest marine disasters in history. Directed by Jeffrey S. Miller, with musical direction by Jess Modaff. Titanic opened to a sold out weekend. Remaining shows runs through February 1st, 2020 and tickets are available online.

Titanic the Musical is set on the ocean liner RMS Titanic, which sank on its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912. Among others, the owner, designer, and captain of the newly built RMS Titanic stand in awe of the impressive feat of engineering. As the crew arrives and the passengers board, the mosaic of characters is introduced, and their conversations reveal their social status and satisfaction with life. When the ship’s owner demands that the captain increase the speed to arrive in New York early, the Titanic tragically collides with an iceberg, tossing the voyage into a state of
chaos and the passengers into a situation of immense danger.

Titanic the Musical is performed by an ensemble of 28 Gordon College students. It also features Paul Edwards of Gordon’s advancement office, and his wife Jeannie Edwards in the roles of Isidor and Ida Straus. Performances will be held in The Margret Jensen Theatre, a blackbox theater that
creates an intimate and engaging theatrical experience.

Titanic first premiered on Broadway in 1997. It featured music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, and a book by Peter Stone. It swept the 1997 musical Tony Awards winning all five it was nominated for including the awards for Best Musical and Best Score. With a Grammy Award nominated cast album, over the next twenty years the show received hundreds of professional and amateur productions worldwide and has become a national and international staple of musical theatre. Although it premiered in the same year as the movie Titanic, the musical and movie have no connection and tell different stories.

Titanic the Musical is the third production of Gordon College Theatre Arts’ 2019-2020 Mainstage
season, and will be followed in the spring by Velveteen Rabbit, directed by Norman Jones.

Tickets for Titanic the Musical are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.gordon.edu/tickets or by calling the box office at 978-867-4282.
