Hamilton, Wenham Residents Encouraged To Use Rain Barrels

The two towns are offering discounted rain barrels to help conserve water resources.

HAMILTON-WENHAM, MA – The Towns of Hamilton and Wenham are offering discounted rain barrels to residents as part of a conservation program.

The barrels – which the towns' partner Great American Rain Barrel Company in Hyde Park is offering for $69 for painted barrels and $64 for unpainted – can catch as much as 1,500 gallons in a season. The barrels can be hooked up to a watering can or garden hose, and are for sale f0r 40 percent less than the retail price through the town.

The barrels are only available at the discounted price until May 13.

"We offering this program to help manage rising water costs, save vegetation from drought conditions and help our community protect its aquifers," said Hamilton Selectman Shawn Farrell in a press release. "We want residents to use rain barrels because they are an effective way to collect and save water."

The Great American Rain Barrel Company recommends one rain barrel for every 100 square feet of garden.
