On Second Thought, Rec Director Decides to Stay

Sean Timmons was the top pick to become the recreation supervisor in Marblehead.

Hamilton-Wenham Recreation Director Sean Timmons was selected to become Marblehead's new recreation supervisor earlier this month.

This week, though, he reconsidered his acceptance of the post and will stay as Hamilton-Wenham's recreation director.

Hamilton Town Manager Michael Lombardo, who oversees the combined recreation department, said Timmons asked him on Monday to reconsider his resignation.

"He will be staying on in Hamilton," Lombardo said.

Timmons was selected to succeed James Sullivan, who left Marblehead at the end of the summer for a job in Winchester, closer to home.

At first, Timmons said he made "a very diffucult decision" to take the Marblehead job.

Later, thought, Timmons said he ended up not feeling 100 percent committed to the position in Marblehead.

Marblehead Town Administrator Jeff Chelgren, who was town administrator for 10 years before he was hired in Marblehead, said on Wednesday that the Marblehead Recreation and Parks Commisison had narrowed its field of candidates to three before the town offered the job to Timmons.

During the selection process, qualified candidates were to interview with Marblehead Recreation Superintendent Brendan Egan, the superintendent said prior to those interviews.

The town administrator said all three candidates were very capable and the recreation panel will decide how to proceed from here.
