Hotel Offers Displaced Residents 'Rates Starting At $225'

The Beauport Hotel Gloucester apologized after a 'heartless' offer to those who were displaced following the Merrimack Valley explosions.

GLOUCESTER, MA — While at least one North Shore hotel was offering free rooms to those affected by Thursday's explosions and fires in the Merrimack Valley, another was offering the victims rooms for $225.

The Beauport Hotel Gloucester posted Thursday night on Facebook that it was "sorry to hear about our neighboring towns Andover, North Andover & Lawrence. For those who may need accommodations this evening due to being displaced, we are offering rates starting at $225. We hope everyone stays safe."

The post was deleted shortly after it was posted, but screenshots of it made the rounds on social media.

The hotel later posted that a "well-meaning employee made a post that has been deemed offensive and heartless to those affected." The hotel apologized and offered free rooms to those who were displaced.

Before the Beauport made its Facebook snafu, the Salem Waterfront Hotel was being lauded on social media for offering its vacancies to those affected.
