Letter to the Editor: Maddern Has 'Leadership, Thoughtfulness and Ability to Get the Job Done'
The former president of the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Sports and Activities Alliance writes in support of Scott Miaddern for Hamilton Board of Selectmen.
To the Editor:
With the Hamilton town election only a few weeks away, I would like to express my support for an outstanding member of our community, Scott Maddern.
Having worked in the high technology and financial services industries for over 30 years, it is easy for me to say that I have never met anyone more thoughtful, energetic or accomplished as Scott Maddern. He is a family man, first and foremost. Our families lived in the same neighborhood and it was clear that his devotion to his family was the driving force behind all the activities he undertook as a resident of Hamilton.

As we make decisions for Hamilton town officials on April 11, many residents will find themselves not knowing the candidates in any great depth. I am lucky enough to have known Scott Maddern quite well because of our work together on the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Sports and Activities Alliance.
The “Alliance” was formed to raise funds and awareness for after-school sports and activities. The formation of this group was brought-on by the school funding shortages impacting programs during the early-to-mid 2000s. As I reflect back on the accomplishments of the group, Scott was not-only a co-founder but also one of the key contributors in the group’s success in raising over $200,000 for high-school programs.

While Scott is a strong advocate for athletic programs, as a member of the Alliance he supported non-athletic programs with equal energy. It was obvious to me his approach was well balanced and well-thought-out. I commend Scott for keeping our mission in focus and reminding the group to be open-minded.
Two additional thoughts regarding Scott. Every time I drive by or enter the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library I thank Scott Maddern for his leadership and vision. When you are judging other candidates, stop and think about what an amazing resource the library is to our community and that Scott Maddern lead that effort for all of us.
Finally, during a recent career change, I reached out to one individual in town for advice, Scott Maddern. He was supportive and inviting, hosting me in his home at 7 a.m. early one morning last summer. This is the Scott Maddern I know and respect so greatly.
In April, as I consider the candidates for town office, I will use three criteria to make my decision: leadership, thoughtfulness and ability to get the job done. Scott Maddern easily receives an A+ from me in each of these areas. He has my vote and I urge all Hamilton residents to elect Scott Maddern as our next Selectman. He will work hard for us and listen closely to each of us. Two signs of a great leader!
Thank you very much for your time and attention.
Regards,
John McGrath
