The Low Number MA License Plate Lottery Is Now Open
This is the first year customers are allowed to apply online.
WESTON – The Registry of Motor Vehicles announced Friday that applications for the 2016 low number plate lottery are now being accepted online or by mail.
This is the first time customers will be able to enter the lottery online, here. Mail-in applications are available for download here, or at RMV branch offices across the state. Applications must be complete by August 26, 2016.
“The low plate lottery is our customers’ favorite time of the year at the RMV,” said Registrar Erin Deveney in a statement. “We are excited to have streamlined our application process this year to allow for online submissions, making it easier for our customers to enter the lottery. Not only can our customers skip the line by doing over 23 transactions at www.MassRMV.com, now they can also skip the stamp and enter the lottery electronically.”

Each year, approximately 6,800 applications for the lottery are received. This year, there are 183 plates included in the lottery, surpassing the total number for 2015.
The addition of the online application option is expected to increase the number of applications for 2016. There is no application fee, however, winners of the lottery must pay a fee to receive the license plate, as well as complete a standard registration fee.
