Thomas A. Henley, 85

HAMILTON, MA (From Whittier-Porter Funeral Home) – Thomas A. Henley, 85, of Railroad Avenue, Hamilton, died Saturday July 22, 2017 in the Beverly Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Ipswich June 1, 1932 son of the late Thomas L and Ida E. (Daniels) Henley, he was a lifelong Hamilton resident., a 1952 graduate of Hamilton High School. He proudly served an enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps, honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1955. Throughout the years of his working life he used his skills as a carpenter, having worked for several area contractors including Finley McDonald Construction of Hamilton.

Tom enjoyed his annual family camping trips to Long Lake, ME and the special time he had with his grandchildren, family and many friends.

He was the founding member of the Hamilton Horseshoe Club and a longtime member of the A.P. Gardner American Legion Post #142 of Hamilton where he had served as a Captain of the Rifle Squad.

He is survived by a son, Scott T. Henley and his companion Debra Bockes of Haverhill; two daughters, Lorri E. Bonaccorso of Danvers, and Tracey A. Slaven and her husband Michael of Beverly; five grandchildren, Ashley of Malden, Kyle of Danvers and Maria Bonaccorso of S. Boston, and Michael and Kate Slaven both of Beverly; his very close niece Linda and husband Peter Heintz and his many other nieces and nephews.

His funeral service with Military Honors will be held 11 am Tuesday, July 25, graveside in the Hamilton Cemetery, Bay Road, Hamilton. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. A visitation in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich will precede the service from 9 to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the A.P. Gardner American Legion Post #142, 37 School St., Hamilton, MA 01982.
