Van Gogh Goes Hamilton

An extraordinary one-man show about Vincent Van Gogh will be presented July 13-16 by Stage 284 Black Box Lab at The Community House.

The acclaimed two-act play, written by Leonard Nimoy (of ‘Spock’ fame) and performed by him more than 150 times, features Ipswich resident Doug Brendel as Theo, Van Gogh’s gallery-owner brother, who in turn plays the part of Vincent himself about 20 times during the course of the evening — along with a number of other characters from Van Gogh’s colorful life. Along the way, the audience finds that they themselves are part of the story.

The play is visually stunning as images of the artist’s works are projected as a backdrop to the live action.

What makes this a truly unique experience is that Doug’s wife Kristina Brendel directs the show. In 2011, the collaborative husband-and-wife team produced a “trial run” in of the play in Ipswich and the entire run sold out. Since then, Kristina has tweaked and re-mastered the performances, with enhanced images of Van Gogh’s work.
