WENHAM – A mandatory water ban has been declared until further notice.
The ban is in effect immediately, the the Water Department says.Â
According to a release, "All nonessential outdoor watering, including but not limited to the use of water for irrigation or automobile and property washing is prohibited." The ban includes water from private wells.

Water use required for "health or safety reasons; by regulation for the production of food and fiber; for maintenance of livestock; to meet the core functions of a business or as necessary to apply pain, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement" is allowed.
Hand watering is also allowed between the hours of  5 p.m. and 9 a.m.

Violators are subject to $100 fines per offense.
