Wenham Selectman Clemenzi Signs Resignation Letter

Clemenzi announced his resignation over a week ago amid a discrimination complaint.

WENHAM, MA — Just over a week after Wenham Selectman John Clemenzi announced he would resign from the Board of Selectmen, he has signed the formal resignation letter.

Clemenzi and Selectmen Jack Wilhelm resigned from the board following a discrimination complaint against the town and Clemenzi. The town waited nearly a week for Clemenzi's written resignation, spurring a demonstration in front of Wenham Town Hall.

Chairman Gary Cheeseman is the only selectman left on the board.

Clemenzi's letter is dated Jan. 26 but stamped by the town clerk as Jan. 27.

Aside from the complaint, Clemenzi was also publicly accused of sexual harassment by Carrie Jelsma, the vice chair of the Finance Committee, during a meeting earlier this month. A petition was started last week on Change.org to have Clemenzi step down that gained over 300 signatures.
