What Do You Know About Modern Square Dancing?

Here's your chance to learn something new in the new year

Who hasn't heard of square dancing? It usually conjures up thoughts of western music and clothing, a kind of hoedown theme. That is NOT modern square dancing, which includes any type of music with a good beat and whatever type of clothes one is comfortable wearing while moving at a brisk pace. Danvers has been home to Riverside Squares Dance Cllub for over 59 years, and has changed with the times. On January 30th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, the club is offering a free introductory night of modern square dancing, with refreshments, including homemade soups, at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 13 Holten Street, in Danvers (across from Danvers Town Hall).

Modern square dancing can be a great family activity. No partner is needed. Anyone who can walk briskly can learn to square dance. It's great mental and physical exercise, as well as fun and social. It really helps to improve listening skills while generating smiles and laughter along the way. After the free introduction, the club hopes that folks will want to learn more. Classes continue each Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM for 75 weeks. Cost for the class is $85.00 per person.
