Crash Victim Recovering

Erik Spitz was injured when a tow truck lost control in the rain and hit his car.

Erik Spitz, 26, is recovering from a March 9 crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Hopkinton that broke several bones, deflated his lungs, bruised his brain and cracked his skull, according to the Telegram.com.

According to the telegram.com, Jason L. Martel, 34, of Southbridge, hit the guardrail, a tractor-trailer truck and then Spitz's car in the 1 a.m. crash.

Spitz, an Oxford resident and kitchen manager of in Natick, was in a week-long coma, had several surgeries and spent time on a ventilator. He is now walking, according to the telegram.com, and is rehabilitating at Fairlawn Rehab Hospital in Worcester.

He and his wife, Liz, have 22-month-old and 4-month-old daughters. His wife said The Cheesecake Factory sent meals to the family each day at UMass.

There is a benefit May 5, at the Oxford VFW, which will include dinner and dancing. Tickets are $25 apiece and can be bought at any school in Oxford or at the central administration offices.
