Dunkin' Donuts Will Come To Hopkinton After All

After three years of appeals, construction is set to begin on West Main Street.

HOPKINTON, MA – Construction on a Dunkin' Donuts in Hopkinton is set to begin in 2018 following a years-long court process. Crews have begun preparing the land at 78 West Main St. for building after the latest ruling was handed down earlier this year, according to the MetroWest Daily News.

The issue lied in whether Dunkin' should be labeled a store or a restaurant under Hopkinton bylaws. The Planning Board approved it as a "retail store" in 2013, but it was ruled a "fast food restaurant" by a land court judge three years later, the MetroWest Daily News reported. Fast food restaurants are prohibited under town bylaws.

The decision was reversed on appeal in August. Dunkin' will take over the lot on West Main Street, which has remained vacant during the appeals process
