Greyhound Friends Now Helps Other Hounds

Greyhound Friends now accepts other dogs, too.

The following press release was submitted by Greyhound Friends.

Animal lovers came to Greyhound Friends in Hopkinton on Sunday, Nov. 3, to meet beautiful greyhound crosses, hounds and other dogs available for adoption at the charity’s Hound Open House.

Greyhound Friends' primary focus remains on caring for and adopting greyhounds into loving homes but has recently expanded their services to include other breeds.

The public was invited to stop by and meet hounds who had been adopted as well as hounds at the shelter who are waiting for their forever homes.

The majority of the crosses and hounds come from Midwestern states, were picked up as strays, and had little chance of adoption at high-kill shelters in that region. As greyhound racing dwindles in this country, some greyhounds end up with hunters who want to breed them with hunting dogs to make faster hunting dogs or sled dogs. Shelters in the Midwest are flooded with dogs and rescue officials asked Greyhound Friends to take the dogs and help adopt them into permanent homes.
