Hopkinton Chiropractor Supports Cancer Prevention Event 6/15

MASSACHUSETTS BREAST CANCER COALITION'S ANNUAL STATEWIDE AGAINST THE TIDE ATHLETIC FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) will hold its annual, statewide Against the Tide athletic fundraising events in 2019. The statewide Metro-Boston event will be held for the 27th year at DCR's Hopkinton State Park on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Proceeds benefit MBCC, the state’s leading breast cancer organization dedicated to preventing the environmental causes of breast cancer through community education, research advocacy, and changes to public policy.

Since 2014, Dr. Binh Nguyen of Cedar Chiropractic & Sports in Hopktinton has generously donated his time on the beach, offering free chiropractic service to participants at MBCC’s Hopkinton event. Dr. Nguyen is a strong believer in treating patients holistically, “Excellent patient care is more than just making the pain disappear. It is about learning, understanding and taking care of your body to improve your quality of life. I believe holistic treatment and prevention go hand in hand – prevention is a large part of my practice. That is why I love MBCC’s work! I council my patients on prevention against injuries and illness down the road, including cancers. I believe that clean water, organic foods, and the environment all have an impact on our health.”

Dr. Nguyen specializes in chiropractic sports medicine and has served as a medical staff member at numerous athletic events including the 2010 New York Half Marathon, the 2013 Toughman Half Triathlon, and the 2014 Reebok Crossfit Games Northeast Regionals. Currently, Dr. Nguyen is the official team Chiropractic Physician for the Worcester County Wildcats Football team and volunteers his time as a member of the medical staff to treat injured athletes. Cedar Chiropractic & Sports under the ownership of Dr. Binh Nguyen has received many local awards including: Reader's Choice Awards for #1 Choice for Hopkinton Chiropractor in 2014, 2015, and 2018; the Reader’s Choice Regional Favorites Gold Award: Chiropractor in the Western Massachusetts in 2014 and 2018; and the Reader’s Choice Regional Favorites Silver Award: Chiropractor in Western Massachusetts in 2015. On June 15th Dr. Nguyen will receive another award, this time from MBCC, for his ongoing support and dedication to Against the Tide and Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission.

“We are lucky to have support from Dr. Nguyen and local businesses like his at our statewide events over the years. It is an inspiration to watch him interact with our participants and support them – his passion is evident.” says MBCC's Executive Director Cheryl Osimo. “We depend on our supporters to continue our unique goal of breast cancer prevention and Dr. Nguyen has proven that he understands and supports that goal and our mission.”

In additional to the Hopkinton event, MBCC will host the statewide Cape Cod Against the Tide event, being held for the 20th year, at DCR's Nickerson State Park (Brewster, MA) on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

These family-friendly and inspirational events bring people from all demographics together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention. The event offers participants of all ages the choice of up to four of the following components: competitive and recreational swims, recreational kayak, fitness walk, paddleboard and USA Track & Field certified 5K/10K runs. The event also offers an Aquathon “Splash and Dash” component, where participants “splash” in the competitive one-mile swim and immediately “dash” in the 5K or 10K run (distance chosen by the participant).

MBCC is inviting people throughout Massachusetts to register for one or both of the events at www.mbcc.org/swim or by calling 1-800-649-MBCC (6222). Those who cannot attend are encouraged to make a pledge to a registered participant or team. Participants may register as an individual or as part of a team, such as the one started by Cedar Chiropractic and Sports: https://www.firstgiving.com/team/384861. Registration is $40 per adult per event activity ($80 for Aquathon) and $25 per student per event activity ($50 for Aquathon) up to a maximum of four events. We encourage all participants to fundraise beyond the registration minimum, as all proceeds support Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. Prizes will be awarded to the podium finishers and top fundraisers.
