Hopkinton Voters Pick Gomez, Holliston Goes With Markey

Each town had more than one-third of registered voters cast ballots.

More than one-third of voters in both Hopkinton and Holliston went out to the polls on Tuesday select the replacement for Secretary of State John Kerry's vacated Senate seat.

But the decisions made by voters in each town were different. Holliston went with Democrat Ed Markey by a slim margin over Republican Gabriel Gomez. Markey received 1,736 votes, Gomez 1,681 and third-party candidate Richard Heos won five votes.

In Hopkinton on the other hand, Gomez took home the win with 1,876 votes. Markey received 1,368 votes and Heos had four ballots cast in his favor.

Ultimately the Republican's efforts weren't enough. The race was called in favor of Ed Markey just after 9 p.m
