Hundreds Turn Out for Pro-Casino Rally

The meeting was held in Milford.

Hundreds of people attended a rally Thursday to show their support of a casino planned for Milford, according to the Telegram and Gazette.

The meeting was held at the Portuguese Club, a kickoff to what organizers hope will be a movement that encourages casino-supporters to step forward. Foxwoods CEO and President Scott Butera was in attendance and told the group that Foxwoods would be investing in the area, which would result in well-paid jobs, according to the Telegram.

The pro-casino effort is led locally by Michael Kaplan, a Milford attorney and the chairman of the local bar association. In a phone interview with Patch, Kaplan explained that part of his reason for organizing the group was an experience in his neighborhood. He put up a pro-Foxwoods sign at his house, in a neighborhood with several anti-casino signs, and was accosted by a neighbor who disagreed with him.

Milford voters will decide Nov. 19 whether the casino should be advanced.
