Mother Of Hopkinton Teen Has Open Assault Case: Reports
Calvina Strothers, 41, who is accusing the Middlesex DA of misconduct, has a pending charge of assault and battery on a family member.

HOPKINTON, MA —The Hopkinton mother accusing the Middlesex District Attorney of mishandling an investigation into her 16-year-old daughter's death is due in Framingham District Court in July, where she has a pending charge of assault and battery on a family member.
The Boston Herald reported Friday the case against Calvina Strothers, 41, stems from an April 2020 incident where she was accused of hitting one of her teenage children. The child's named was not released in the police report, the newspaper said, but the child was temporarily taken into custody by the state Department of Children and Families.
Strothers's daughter, Mikayla Miller, 16, was found dead in a wooded area near the family's Hopkinton apartment last month. Strothers said police who responded told her Mikayla had committed suicide — a claim Strothers and others have disputed. The family has called for an independent investigation and asked for Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan to be removed from the case for failing to bring charges against teenagers who assaulted her daughter hours before her body was discovered.
