State Bill Designed to Protect Animals from Cruel Conditions

MSPCA Urges Residents to Support An Act Enhancing the Issuance of Citations for Cruel Conditions for Animals

The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) is supporting state legislation designed to give local law enforcement and animal control officers the ability to resolve situations more quickly in the best interest of animals. These bills expand upon current law that allows citations to be issued when dogs are kept in cruel conditions.

You can support this bill by contacting your state representative and state senator and urging them to support House Bill 2214/Senate Bill 1728: An Act Enhancing the Issuance of Citations for Cruel Conditions for Animals.

This legislation extends this protection to all domestic animals and also updates language to protect dogs that left outside and unattended are protected. According to the MSPCA's website, "Broadening the current statute’s scope in this way allows an effective response to problematic situations involving animals and prevents them from escalating."
