$25M Housing Project Approved for Jamaica Plain's Egleston Square
A 100,000-square-foot housing and retail site at 3200 Washington Street will soon be built in Jamaica Plain.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority recently approved eight new projects across the city of Boston, totaling $401 million. As part of the revitalization efforts, Jamaica Plain’s Egleston Square will get a 100,000-square-foot housing and retail site at 3200 Washington Street.
Vacant industrial buildings and an automotive repair shop, which currently sit at the Washington Street location, will be destroyed to make way for the project.
The BRA’s project includes 76 residential units and neatly 4,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Three buildings sections will be constructed, with an open courtyard for residents. A 41-space parking garage and bicycle storage units will accompany the work as well.

The developer presiding over the Washington Street work recently won a bid to redevelop a parcel on Montebello Road. Those particular plans will be incorporated into the project, creating for six more affordable units than originally planned. A total of 18 affordable housing units will be made. Nearly 24 percent of the project will feature affordable housing, exceeding requirements of Boston’s Inclusionary Development Policy.
Variations in the buildings’ massing will help the project fit in with the scale of the surrounding neighborhood.
