3 Arrested After 'Violent Struggle' With Officers In JP: Police

Police said after a man walking down the street ran away from them, they chased him down got into a fight with him and found a gun on him.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — A routine patrol Saturday night resulted in three arrests following a police chase and a violent struggle between officers and a teen with a loaded gun, police said.

About 10:13 p.m. on Nov. 17, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol near Parker Street in Jamaica Plain when they saw a group of men with whom they'd have previous encounters. Police said when they attempted to speak with the group, one of them took off down the street.

So police ran after him. As the young man tried to get into 950 Parker St., police said "a violent struggle occurred in the entryway to the residence."

At that point a second teen arrived, and attempted to intervene. Police said he, too, began fighting with officers. Police arrested him. As that was happening, a woman came out of the home and began shouting at officers, who were still attempting to place the first young man under arrest.

As officers were struggling with the first teen, they said they saw he was clenching an gun close to his chest. According to police as they attempted to remove the gun, which they later found out was loaded, the woman, who police later identified as the teen's mother, began to physically assault them.

Eventually officers were able to place both the teen and his mother under arrest.

They confiscated the .32 caliber charter and arms undercover revolver loaded with six rounds of live ammunition, according to police.

Police arrested a 17-year-old of Weymouth, and charged him with delinquent to wit: unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer with injuries and trespassing.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old from Dorchester charged him with delinquent to wit: assault and battery on a police officer with injuries, resisting arrest, and trespassing.

Police arrested Shirley Thompson, 40, of Weymouth and charged her with assault and battery on a police officer with injuries, resisting arrest and trespassing.

All are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
