5 Jamaica Plain Businesses Win Best Of Boston 2018

Two restaurants were among those recognized by Boston Magazine this year for being Boston's best.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — JP is the place to be for bicycles, toy stores, yoga, Mexican food and Bagels. That's according to the annual rankings put out by Boston Magazine.

For the past 12 months, Boston magazine's team of judges ate, drank, and shopped their way across Boston, Cambridge, to the 'burbs to the Cape and the Islands to find the best the area has to offer. The July issue of the magazine names its winners and they include 5 JP based- winners.

Chilacates, which recently opened on Centre Street in addition to its first spot near the Stonybrook T stop, got recognized for best Mexican restaurant for the second year in a row.

"Socrates Abreu’s J.P. restaurants may be small, but the aromas coming out of his Mexican street-food kitchens are big and bold. There’s no wrong way to go with the mix-and-match menu here," reads the glowing winners report from Boston Magazine.

And then there's Exodus Bagels, which took over the space formerly occupied by Canto 6 on the corner of Green and Washington and has had a line out the door, since.

"Fresh off the shelf at baker Adam Hirsh’s long-awaited new shop, the bagels are a soft, chewy foundation for substantial sandwiches such as the Monumental, featuring a hard-boiled egg, local greens, and bacon. Warmed, the crisp exterior crackles pleasantly. Bagel lovers can’t go wrong," reads the review.

JP Centre Yoga earned praise for its inclusive environment.

"This community-focused studio manages to challenge advanced students, encourage beginners, and make everyone feel welcome. No gimmicks, no fusions, just well-taught yoga," reads the praise.
