BPS Students Share Stories of Exponential Growth
Credit their Boston Partners mentor for motivating them

Third grade students Alijah and Charla were having trouble with math when they were matched with Grant, a Boston Partners academic mentor.
Each week, Grant has met with Alijah and Charla during the class time to help practice fundamental math principles they’ll need to stay on track as STEM curricula grow- like their new favorite concept, square roots.
“Six weeks ago, a square root was some sort of plant, and now they can actually tell you what the square root of nine is and they can tell why,” says Grant.

Working with Grant has benefited the pair in other ways too – they’ve also gained a role model who helps them build confidence. In May, Alijah and Charla even had the courage to speak on stage at our annual Gala in front of 500 guests!

It’s been a year of tremendous growth for the pair, who continue to ready themselves for the future. In the words of Alijah: "I feel prepared, but there's still a lot to learn.”
