Braintree Resident Appears in Freckleface Strawberry

It's great to be different! Riverside Theatre Works presents "Freckleface Strawberry."

Braintree resident Bryan George Rowell will appears in Riverside Theatre Works’ production of “Freckleface Strawberry,” a charming musical about the joys of being yourself.

Based on the children’s book by actress Julianne Moore, the show tells the story of a redheaded girl who will do anything to get rid of her freckles. Rowell plays Danny, an all-American sports star who secretly wishes he did better in school – and who helps his friend learn that our differences make us special.

Performances are February 28 and March 7 at 7 p.m., March 1 and 8 at 2 p.m., and special school day shows March 3 and 5 at 10:30 a.m. Tickets for weekend performances cost $10 for kids and $15 for adults, and are available at www.rtwboston.org or by calling 1-866-811-4111.

The play is directed and produced by Toni Ruscio, who has also directed shows at Braintree’s Curtain Call Theatre – most recently, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” She is executive director of Riverside Theatre Works, where she recently directed “Sideways Stories from Wayside School” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”

Jim Gross, the “Freckleface Strawberry” set designer, is in his third season as Riverside’s resident set master. He recently designed the set for “Spelling Bee” at the Curtain Call Theatre.

Rowell, who is making is Riverside debut in this show, is a Braintree native and a student at Quincy College. He has appeared in productions of “Spelling Bee,” “Rent,” “Spring Awakening,” “Les Miserables,” and “Hairspray.”
